Flora

Lichens

The site has a mixture of lichens typical of damp, ‘oceanic’ woodland such as Lobaria, Sticta, Nephroma, Pannaria, together with species of Eastern, ‘dry’ woodlands, chiefly in crevices. These included Caliciales such as Calicium, Chaenotheca, etc. Trees were not particularly ancient but Arthonia vinosa may indicate ancient woodland relics. Fertile specimens, particularly of Sticta limbata, and probably Lobaria scrobiculata and Usnea subfloridana, may also indicate ancient-ness. (Anthony Fletcher and Ian M. Evans, 30th April 2003, full report)
