Moths

As most moths are night flyers they are not seen by the casual visitor to the wood. We have been fortunate to have welcomed our local county moth recorders - Margaret Currie & Andy Scott - to host several moth identification events in the Gearrchoille. Moth traps are set up in the evening and attracted to the light overnight.  In the morning the traps are opened & the moths identified (and released!)

The total species list for the Gearrchoille is 126.

In 2010 we held a moth training day for the local Primary school, following which we produced a leaflet incorporating photos & drawings by the children.
